The Smart Route Solution
Other established Smart Routes in Sheffield have already provided more reliable and sustainable transport solutions, offering a realistic alternative to using the car. Ecclesall Road is already a high frequency bus corridor, and by making public transport more attractive, this could help to reduce congestion by encouraging some car users to make more sustainable travel choices. The council has a policy to grow the use of public transport in Sheffield by 2% next year. Bus services have been improved over recent years and the majority have now been upgraded with low floor, easy access buses. Future improvements for bus passengers may involve upgrading the traffic signals along the route, which could provide an element of priority to late running buses, where the traffic conditions allow. This could significantly improve journey times, and the reliability and punctuality of bus services. Parking arrangements and waiting restrictions along the route are also being investigated to see if any practical changes could be appropriate to improve traffic flow. |
