Previous Improvements
In 2004, we asked local residents and businesses located along the route for feedback on the improvements that were planned to take place in the following years. After a very positive response was received, Rotherham Council set in motion plans to improve the corridor. The following traffic improvements have taken place along the corridor:
- A bus lane on the approach to Mushroom Roundabout on Doncaster Road in Dalton alongside landscaping improvements and improved walkways.
- A bus lane on Fitzwilliam Road in Eastwood on the approach to Mushroom Roundabout, complete with bus priority measures.
- Pedestrian crossings installed along the corridor.
- A number of bus stops have been added and improved with features to make bus services more reliable and punctual to enhance the experience for waiting passengers.
- Traffic signals installed at College Road Roundabout and St Ann’s Roundabout.
Improving travel for everyone is part of the Smart Route concept that is being introduced across South Yorkshire to improve transport on several roads. The Smart Route concept would be introduced to improve travel for all road users along the Rotherham – Thrybergh corridor.
