Mushroom Roundabout

Mushroom Roundabout is located between Eastwood and Dalton on the A630 and is where Fitzwilliam Road, Doncaster Road, Aldwarke Lane and Herringthorpe Valley Road all meet. Currently the roundabout experiences heavy congestion, particularly at peak times of the day, and was highlighted as a key location for improvement in the consultation that took place in 2009.

The improvements that will be made to Mushroom Roundabout are shown from A – E on the map and in the text below.

Mushroom Roundabout

Label A
Traffic lights will be installed to each entrance of the roundabout to help improve traffic flow.

Label B
The bus lane along Fitzwilliam Road will be extended towards the roundabout to help reduce journey times for all road users, as the bus would be removed from general traffic for a longer distance.

Label C
The subway on Fitzwilliam Road will be closed and replaced with a pedestrian and cycle crossing.

Label D
Pedestrian and cycle crossings will be provided on all of the roads that join the roundabout.

Label E
The right-turn from Herringthorpe Valley Road to Doncaster Road will close to help reduce congestion onto the roundabout.

The Future

It is anticipated that work will start at Mushroom Roundabout in September 2010. As part of these works Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council will be amending and introducing Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO's) which are legal notices explaining the changes happening to the road. For more information about the TRO's, go to the What Happens Next section.
