Whinney Hill along the A630Improvements to Mushroom Roundabout

The A630 between Rotherham town centre and Thrybergh is one of Rotherham’s busiest roads. Over the last few years, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive have been working together to improve travel for all road users who use the A630. Following public feedback received during the summer of 2009, we are now ready to begin making further improvements to the route.

In the consultation, over 85% of you agreed with the idea of introducing a Smart Route along the A630, and over 75% of you suggested that improvements should be made to Mushroom Roundabout. Based on your important feedback we have developed improvements along the route at key locations.

The first location identified for improvement is Mushroom Roundabout and they included installing traffic lights to each entrance on the roundabout to help improve traffic flow. To look at all the improvements, please click here.

As part of the formal Traffic Regulation Order process, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council advertised the following TRO’s to allow the scheme to progress.

These related specifically to :

  • The extension to the existing bus lane on Fitzwilliam Road (A630)
  • The closure of the right turn in the central reservation on Herringthorpe Valley Road (A6123) to Doncaster Road.

As part of this process, no objections were received and the work to improve Mushroom Roundabout will take place in September 2010.
