Latest Works...

The next phase of works along the A630 Smart Route will take place near to the junction with Sandford Road, between Alexandra Road and Greenfield Lane. This work is expected to start on 17 January 2011 for a period of 12 weeks, weather dependant.

The map below shows the locations of the proposed improvements.

The existing subway at the junction with Sandford Road will be filled in and replaced with a signal controlled pedestrian crossing. This will improve safety for pedestrians crossing the A630, provide better access to local shops, amenities and bus stops and help deter the anti-social behaviour that is known to take place in the existing subway.

A bus gate will be installed just after St Johns Road to allow buses to progress along the A630 quicker. The bus gate will be for the use of buses, hackney carriages, private hire vehicles and cyclists only at all times.

As part of improvements at the junction, a new dedicated right turn lane into Sandford Road will be introduced to help traffic flow. This will improve safety, while journey time reliability will also improve as right-turning traffic will be controlled by the traffic signals.

The existing parking area between Earlesmere Avenue and St John's Road is to be retained.

We will also be making alterations to the alignment of the carriageway as well as upgrading traffic signals along the route. This will help to reduce journey times for all vehicles travelling along the A630.

Also, to help further improve safety for all road users, we will be undertaking further resurfacing work of the roads and footpaths as well as introducing improved street lighting.
